Not only is Manchester, NH the home of New Hampshire’s professional sports teams, it is also the headquarters of a handful of co-ops that are coming together this holiday season to give back to their community. CCA Global Partners, one of the largest purchasing cooperatives in North America, has a goal of creating a mutually rewarding bond between the co-op and community, where its growth enhances the lives of customers and entrepreneurs around the world. This holiday season, the spirit of giving back is strong at CCA Global’s headquarters!
The co-op is owned and operated for the benefit of its members – independent store owners – and it has expanded and diversified over the years to become a family of 14 collaborative businesses in various industries with 3500 locations in North America and abroad. Prominent CCA Global co-ops include Carpet One Floor & Home, Flooring America & Flooring Canada, The Floor Trader, FEI Group, Lighting One, The Bike Cooperative, Innovia Community Management Cooperative, and Lionsbridge Contractor Group.
Years ago, employees of these co-ops recognized the growing homeless population in their community and sought to do something to help their fellow New Hampshirites. Food drives, penny drives, clothing drives, charitable painting events, and book drives over the years are just a few of the many ways these co-ops have given back. Now, a ten-foot-tall Giving Tree greets you when you step off the elevator in CCA Global’s home in the Amoskeag Mill Buildings in downtown Manchester.
This year’s Giving Tree benefits Families in Transition (FIT), a nonprofit organization that helps the homeless individuals in the state of New Hampshire. FIT provides innovative, effective interventions that allow those without homes to reach beyond the homelessness cycle and establish healthy, strong lives. In 2016 alone, FIT provided housing and social services to nearly 700 individuals, half of whom were under the age of 18.
Pamela Hawkes of FIT wrote, “We appreciate the team of CCA Global continuing to support FIT through all of our different programs throughout the year.” As the days get colder, co-op employees are donating new gift items to FIT families as well as gently used items that will help stock the shelves of FIT thrift stores. Each ornament hung on the Giving Tree represents a gift, including: warm mittens and hats, bus passes for a month in Manchester, teddy bears, comforters and quilts, and more. Kindness is an inherent trait of these organizations, and CCA Global co-op employees are paying kindness forward this winter.
