1700 High School Students Attend NRECA’s Youth Tour 2016

June 30, 2016

Every year, rural electric cooperatives throughout the US sponsor high school juniors and seniors on a weeklong, expense-paid, eye-opening trip to Washington, D.C. Ever since Lyndon B. Johnson suggested that NRECA send young leaders to Washington, D.C., NRECA has continued this tradition. Each year on the Youth Tour, students meet over 1500+ peers from across the US and engage in historical sight-seeing, meetings with US Representatives and Senators, and hear from pivotal leaders on Youth Day. Encouraging these students to broaden their horizons and actively take part in shaping the future of their communities and country, this Youth Tour encourages students to reach for their dreams. The alumni network of this program contains thousands of leaders, from US Senators to CEOs.

The 2016 Youth Tour hosted 1700 students in the nation’s capital from June 12th to 17th. Check out photos of the event here:, and follow the Youth Tour on Facebook and Twitter!
