This International Women’s Day, we are celebrating women in cooperatives! Cooperatives around the world are giving low-income and unemployed women the chance to find a stable work environment.
The Cooperative Home Care Associates (CHCA) in Bronx, NY is a worker-owned cooperative that provides in-home health care. A worker-owned cooperative is a company that is both owned and managed by its workers. CHCA was founded in 1985 with just 12 home health aides and since, has expanded to over 2,000 staff, 90% of which are women!
Every year, CHCA provides free 5-week interactive training to low-income and unemployed women, before placing them into stable jobs. CHCA aims to give workers the skills to learn and grow while providing reliable, high-quality home health care. This video shows how CHCA is empowering its employees to contribute to the company and help it continue to flourish!
